TCP/IP is corrupted on an XP Home SP2 machine. How can I re-copy or
bre-install TCP/IP on this machine.

I tried removing the TCP/IP tick, selecting NWLink, rebooting and then
removing nwlink and reticking tcp/ip - but that doesn't fix problem.

if I ping a web site get corrupted text on screen.

Warning Programs that access or monitor the Internet, such as antivirus
programs, firewall programs, and proxy clients, may be negatively affected
when you run the netsh winsock reset command. If you have a program that no
longer functions correctly after you follow these steps, reinstall the
program. On computers that are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2,
follow these steps:

1.Click Start, click Run, type netsh winsock reset, and then click OK.
2.When the Command Prompt flashes, restart the computer.

Thanks.

After running netsh winsock reset

I now get a valid ip address from a dhcp server. I also can ping my router
and my DNS server(s). But I cannot ping by hostname/DNS name. Even if a
host is on LAN if I ping it I get:

your request could not find host <hostname> etc

If I do a ipconfig /all - the DNS servers are in there.

So I assume I have another problem now. How can I resolve?

I suggest you post the output of the ipconfig /all and route print and
describe your setup a bit.
