Re-Install or Repair

Not that this proves anything, but I have a wireless keyboard and have
no trouble getting into Safe Mode.

My computer has a Microsoft Wireless Multi Media Keyboard. If you want
to use the Function keys you need to depress the F Lock key to get them
to work. You only need to do this once after Windows has booted but it
is necessary every time the computer is booted. It an irritant, which
becomes a nuisance if you cannot access in normal mode and want Safe
Mode. This issue came home to roost when I started to get to grips with
Stop Error messages. My canned response follows, which illustrates the
problem I found.

Please post a copy of the Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Well now...

Anyone that is experiencing the problem I had all you have to do is
Re-Install/Repair your windows.

After some more brainy ideas of my own with no success I piled through some
junk and found a Ps/2 port keyboard. Which in turn allowed me to run the
repair with my windows cd and "poof" all my problems disappeared. I can
access my user accounts and my cd rom drives work problem free and read all
types of cd's now.

I thank you all for your insight and help with my problem, even though I
still have no idea what caused it, I don't care anymore. I'm fresh and clean
with a new xp install and working great!

Thx again for everyone's help!!

You still might be able to discover what it was.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for when the most
recenterrors occur. No Information Reports or Duplicates please.
Indicate which also appear in a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Anyone know of a way i could re-install WinXP or even run a repair without
the cd?

I've recently come into problems with my cd drives and I have come to the
conclusion that its a corrupt file or something in my Windows.

So if anyone knows of a way to do either of those it would be much
appreciated :)

i had a similar problem with a friends dvd about a month ago. we installed
Pinnacle Studio 11 into an Vista Home acer laptop trying to get his tv usb
diversity stick working, when we uninstalled Pinnacle Studio 11 the dvd would
not read disc's and told us their was a problem with the DVDdriver and could
it repair it during every boot which it failed to do. We tried deleting the
driver and reinstalling, same message It took three days to find the solution
it turned out Studio put burner driver filters of its own in the registry
under a key using the words "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" we used a
downloaded file to repair the registry then when we removed the driver and
restarted the windows driver installed correctly, after reinstalling Nero
everything works great. If you want to know how to repair the registry
manually I would suggest you read this.
