Re-install now no iexplorer icon

I just re-installed Win XP Pro due to HDD failure. The installation seemed
to go OK and included SP2 and all up-dates.
When I clicked start I noticed that whilst there was an icon for Outlook,
there wasn't one for Internet Explorer. In addition, if I go to the folder:
\program file\Internet explorer there is no iexplorer.exe file, however, if
I click on windows update iexplorer opens up and goes to the up-date site.

I thought I'd be clever (!) and try and install IE7, but that also didn't
show an iexplorer.exe file or icon

What did happen was that if I opened a html document it opened ie7, if I
clicked windows up-date it opened in ie6.

I then uninstalled ie7 then also tried going into control panel and
add/remove programs and then Windows Components and tried to tick the add
Internet Explorer, but when I do it asked for a file which is in the Service
Pack 2 i386folder - but I downloaded sp2 from the Microsoft up-date site

H-E-L-P!!!!

Thank you

Ron

right click on a blank part of your desktop, select properties and display
properties will open ,click on desktop and then customize desktop, in the
general box check IE.
