How to Unistall IE7 Beta when it doesn't appear in the Add/Remove

This was done after XP Pro Blue Screened and then crashed hard on a Notebook,
precluding anything other than a Repair.

Save bookmarks, passwords, certificates etc. You may want to do a system,
or system state backup before trying this, since my experience is limited to
my situation.
Run a virus scanner, if you don't have one, try
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download IE7 Beta to Desktop.
Create a New Folder on the Desktop (lable it IE7 Beta Exploded).
Run IE7 Beta Install utiltiy.
When it fails(because the same version is installed) copy the contents
of the installation folder, which will have a huge pseudo random file name,
to the New Folder on the desktop.
Close all instances of IE or other internet browsers.
Open three folders:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache
C:\WINDOWS\System32
Create two new columns named Product Version, Product Name System32 and
System32\dllcache.
Click the Product Name column in the System32 and System32\dllcache folders,
this will bring all of the Files associated with Windows Internet Explorer
together.
Most of them should have Product versions of 7.0 for the Beta.
Delete all files named Windows Internet Explorer, in Sysem32 and
System32\dllcache.
Delete all files in Program Files Internet Explorer(the iexplorer.exe file
will have a version number of 7.0 which is probably causing the inability to
reinstall. If the other instances of iexplorer.exe are not deleted first,
then iexplorer.exe will reappear in the Program Files folder after being
deleted from the Program Files folder.
If popups appear saying that what you are doing will destablize Windows or
that the system needs to restart, DO NOT accuate them, simply ignore them
untill ever file has been deleted.
Even if there are warning popups, run the installation program for IE7 Beta.
This should either reinstall it correctly, or create a reference in the
Add/Remove Programs utility under Windows Updates, so that it can be
unistalled correctly.

After I ran Repair, the version of XP Pro that was installed was SP2(IE6.0),
however, the version of iexplorer.exe was 7.0, so IE did not work at all(a
popup appeared saying that there was a failed reference to WINET.dll, as many
of the other Windows Internet Explorer files were 6.0 There was no way to
run Windows Update, to bring my version up to date. The key seemed to be to
get the file versions to all be either 6.0 or 7.0, since there are file
references in the dlls that conflict otherwise.

PS after the new columns are added it will take a couple of minutes for the
folder contents to display with all of the extra information, or reorder the
files by Product Name(not File Name) or Product Version.

Hi,

IE7 is only listed in Add/Remove programs when you click the "Show Updates"
tick box at the top of the window. It is then listed under "Windows XP -
Software Updates".
