Re Errors in Catalog 2

I have a PC that is about 4 years old that originally came with Windows
98SE. I did a clean install of XP Home. I reformatted my hard drive with
the XP CD to NTFS during the install. After the install, I noticed that I
had 2 catalogs listed. The 2nd contained messages that said errors occured
on the drive and were recovered.

I am wondering now if I should have created a small FAT partition instead of
partitioning the entire drive as NTFS since my BIOS is older. MICRON said
they do not support XP on my PC, even though I ran the compatability wizard
before installing and it said my BIOS was compatible with XP--this, however,
was on the FAT partition before I deleted it and reformatted.

Is it possible that I need to reinstall with 2 partitions, a small FAT
partition and and NTFS partition? If so, do I create the FAT partition
first and then install XP to the NTFS partition? Do I just take the CD out
after formatting the FAT partition so XP is not installed on this partition
and then put it back in and reboot so I can setup the NTFS partition and
install XP there?

Any help would be appreciated. It seems that after I reinstall, my system
runs OK for awhile and then I start to have various errors come up. That is
why it seems to me that I may need the FAT partition for compatibility with
my older BIOS? I am not sure if this makes sense, but I believe that when I
installed the first time and left a FAT partition, I did not have the error
messages in the second catalog.

Is there a way to get rid of the 2nd catalog? Everytime I try to delete it,
XP just puts it back.

Sorry for the inaccuracy. The Catalog files I am referring to are CatRoot
files.

Thanks!
