I know you can use TweakUI and also by right clicking the desktop,
properties, desktop tab, customize desktop. But, sometimes when I'm fixing
a computer, no matter if I try that or TweakUI it won't come back. I've
tried that registry hack but all it does is create an IE "E" icon on the
desktop. When I try to click on it nothing happens and when I try to right
click to see the properties I get an error message. Can anyhone help me get
the IE shortcut-actual icon back onto the desktop?

If you're having problems with it, drag a shortcut to
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
to the desktop and change its icon to the one in the above file, via the
shortcut properties

Most people are more comfortable with old problems than with new solutions.

The reason I decided to write that, was mainly because "Nocturnal"

I understand that that is available but I'd like the actual icon that
appears without the little arrow in the corner. I know that TweakUI can
turn that off but I'm looking for an option to restore the icon entirely.

I can't follow the text in this thread , but if you meesed it up and
don't have it and want IE icon on desktop ( not a shortcut) and you're
using XP:
click Start- click "Set program access and Defaults" - click "
Add/remove windows components" - click Internet Explorer - done. If
it's ALREADY checked there , then clear it - close the window then
reopen it and check it.
