Re-categorzing a recurring appointment

In Outlook 2003, I could enter a recurring appointment, classify it, and
re-classify ONE INSTANCE of the the recurring event as necessary. For
instance, I would classify a recurring meeting on the first Monday of every
month using "green" to indicate a meeting on my calendar. At the end of the
each week, I review my calendar and reclassify all events in "orange" to
indicate complete. This lets me easily identify the things I need to carry
over to the following week.

In 2007, I can't re-classify just one instance - when I try to
re-categorized, the system insists that the entire series be reclassified.

Disappointing! Any suggestions?

Correct. In Outlook 2003, colors were associated with labels, which can be
changed per-exception. In Outlook 2007, colors are associated with
categories, which cannot be specified per-exception. Categories behaved
that way in OL 2003 also, but they didn't control the coloring. As far as I
can tell, there's nothing you can do about it.
