Re-Activation required for no apparent reason?

This morning for no apparent reason my XP Home system, warned me that there
" have been substantial changes to my system, requires re-activations within
3 days...etc.etc"

Odd thing is the only thing I changed was created a new Power Configuration
settings and saved them. Restarted... and Re-Activation message.

I also launched the Windows Activation tool... but nothing, it just sits
there....

Last real change: the last security patch (yesterday).

Anybody else seen this.... Any ideas...?

If anyone cares... the end result of the article is a inplace reinstall...

Had to do that.... all is fine now (mind you: lost 1.5 hrs of my time
watching the install go through, then patches, then updates etc)
