I have a PC with Gen XP Home SP3+++++, with AVG 8.5 Free and MalwareBytes for
Security and two User Accounts, Administrator & Operator (Limited).
Immediately after installation I Activated the Product by Internet and this
Activation was successful, so I pressed OK and went about my other business.
This would have been about 6th June. On 5th July, I clicked on Operator Logon
Icon, a small box with a round Red object containing a White cross appeared.
This box had a Pad which had "OK" on it, no other wording. When I clicked OK,
my User Icon showed "Loading your personal settings" and then it Logged me
off. This action repeated on every attempt, including Administrator, but the
Pads on the box for this account changed to "Yes" and "No", clicking either
produced the same result. No normal entry was possible. Safe Mode only was
available for entry but I could not do much from here to find causes or fix
the problem. "Last Known GC" and Safe Mode with Networking provided no
access. Before deciding to perform Repair or Clean Re-Install, I checked
"Event Viewer" and found "System" was reporting Warnings each day from about
nine days after Activation that Activation was required before the grace
period ended, untill the 5th July when the Logon/Logoff Loop was first
experienced. At no time was a Warning Message displayed on the screen that
related to Activation.
Knowing that I had Activated and observed that Activation had been accepted
is causing me concern as to whether this Loop problem was caused by a
Microsoft glitch with Activation or whether some NASTY has taken advantage of
Activation files to produce this apparent lack of Activation.
I then tried a Repair but this did not fix the Logon problem. I very
reluctantly decided to Clean Re-Install, which I did with success and I have
Re-Activated again, successfully.
Not having clearly established the cause of this problem leaves me very
unsure of the integrity of this new installation.
I would be hopefull and most appreciative if someone within this Expert
Community can provide me with a clearly defined answers that relate to this
problem and guidance for corrections, should it happen again.
Thank you.
