re-activation after hardware upgrade

After upgrading to vista ultimate, using OEM software i bought, im getting a
million BSOD and i think its because my mainboard isnt supported by vista.
Ive got 2 days left to activate, is there a way i cancel my activation, and
then install xp again until i upgrade my motherboard, and THEN activate vista
when i upgrade after that?

I have read a lot of stuff about oem products not activating after hardware
changes, and i cant call any free numbers to activate or speak to anyone
either. I dont feel its fair that i should pay anything on top of buying the
software, when all im doing is upgrading my computer. And im sure it doesnt
say anywhere in the literature that i WOULD need to reactivate when i upgrade
any hardware, and that this would be a problem to oem customers.

Let's try that again

Click on Vista Start button and key in Cmd in Start Search box.
Press on Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open Command Prompt with administrative
credentials (equivalent to “Run as Administratorâ€).
In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter when done:
slmgr -rearm or you can use sysprep /generalize
Reboot the computer.
Rearm again when the remaining activation grace period timer counts down to
0 days.

If you haven't activated, how can you cancel something you haven't done?
Just wipe the disk, put XP back on and go get your motherboard and then
install Vista again and THEN, if all goes well, activate. I am assuming
you have a generic OEM, not a Dell or HP type OEM version of Vista.
