RDP will not close when disconnecting or logging off

I have a strange problem that I can't seem to find that anyone else
has. When I disconnect or log off an RDP session the RDP program keeps
running and acts as if it was unexpectedly disconnected and is trying
to reconnect. I cannot click the X in the RPD toolbar to get it to
close. The only way I can close it is to right-click the button on the
toolbar and choose Close.

Of course I can't uninstall the RDP 6 client and when I try to
reinstall I get the message that "the Service Pack version of this
system is newer then the update you are applying".

So I am not sure how to correct this. I have learned to live with it
but it sure would be nice if it worked correctly.

Thanks
Tony

I think that is 99% application issue. I have had same problem a few
years ago with windows 2003. Some application can't correctly stop
when you try log off. Typical application is Acrobat reader 6, driver
for tablet or touch screen, licencing service for some applications or
antivirus program. First you can try is User profile hive cleanup
service from MS. It's free for download.

Are you saying an application on the local or remote machine? This
problem occurs with any remote machine I connect to. I do not have
Adobe Reader 6, nor a tablet PC, touch screen, licensing service or
AV. I do have Reader 8, the PC is fully updated abd I believe BIOS and
drivers are fully updated as well.

OK first you check which kind of resources is redirected from remote
to your machine: sound, printer, disk drive or printer. This is not a
typical problem but can be in your case.

second after you log on to remote machine check list of processes for
your account (on remote machine) typically must run these :csrss.exe,
ctfmon.exe, rdpclip.exe, winlogon.exe, explorer.exe or other shell
application. Each of these processes can run single instance for each
user only. If you visit two times eg. ctfmon.exe you have virus 100%.
Any other processes can slow down or stop logoff procedure.

third: Do you logon with domain or local/workgroup account to remote
computer?

fourth: you can try connect remotely from other computer.

There are many reasons to fail fogoff i'm try to isolate source of
problem.
