FYI for casual users: I got an email on Thursday
( sorry if dup posting - I didn't see one)

Windows Vista Beta 2, RC1, and RC2 Set to Expire

On May 31, 2007, the pre-release versions of Windows Vista (Beta 2, RC1,
and RC2) will expire ... After May 31, 2007, users that continue to use
pre-release versions of Windows Vista will be able to log in for 2-hour
sessions to retrieve data. After 2 hours of use, the PC will
automatically reboot without providing the opportunity to save data. The
opportunity to log in normally for these 2 hour sessions will only be
available for a limited time.

How is this any different from the way the commercial release works?

Well, those are all betas, first of all.

What's significant about what Microsoft is allowing for
users of those betas to do is very important. Users of
those betas can purchase an upgrade version of Vista.
Let's say you downloaded one of those Vista betas and
installed it to a separate partition, you get to keep XP
and have Vista RTM, too. It's a significant cost savings
being able to buy the upgrade version. It will also be
of great benefit to those that installed the Vista beta over
XP (not a smart thing to do) but many testers did that.
