RC2 -build 5744- Installation was not succesful

Eric

Win/XP on HD1 and HD2 with multiple partitions.
On partition 1 on HD2 I have Vista RC1 with Office 2007 Beta.
I tried to install RC2 build 5744 on a blank partition 2 of HD2..
The Vista 5744 image is mounted via Virtual CD ROM and then click Install
Now.

This procedure worked with RC1 and you can start Vista via the boot
manager..

However with RC2 I receive the following error message: during installation:
"The installation was not succesful. Changes made during the installation
process are being undone."

This happens quite late in the installation after all files are copied.

When I restart my Win/XP I get some form of error message "This version of
Windows could not be installed. Previous version installed".
It seems that Vista RC2 is not so flexible anymore in a multi-boot
environment.

Anybody some idea.

I don't think that exact procedure worked with RC1, because it was
installed on the first partition of the second drive, not the second
partition. It's not exactly the same setup.

I'm not sure, but I believe the problem is the location - Vista likes
to be installed in the first partition and expects to find its boot
files there.

I have Vista RC2 installed on the third partition of my second SATA drive.
Installed and is working perfectly.

Ok.
I never tried that but read about problems with location.

Now I'm curious why Eric had a problem with it...
