Random Thumbnails?

Have searched around the site and other places for an answer to this, and
couldn't find one that answered it specifically, and I don't want to muck
around with settings I don't understand. As far as I could tell, I think it's
something to do with the registry, but I thought asking people would be
better then going by instructions I'm not sure of.

I use thumbnail view for various things - in music folders, picture folders,
and assign individual thumbnails to a group of document folders (they're the
'covers' for the files therein). Seeing as this works out at hundreds of
folders, the problem might have come about simply because I'm assigning too
many single folders specific pictures. If this is the case, well, I need to
be less picky about the style of my folders...

The thing is that some folders where I have not assigned a particular
picture are coming up with unrelated ones. The same happens with music files,
as I'll play a file in WMP and have the 'album art' showing as the picture of
book-cover or something, when I'd never manually given the file any picture
on the 'advanced tag editor'. Trying to return the thumbnail settings on each
individual folder to default doesn't always work, though I can assign a
different picture.

Seeing as it doesn't matter whether I have specific thumbnails on folders or
not, is it possible for me to delete these random thumbnails, or all current
ones just to clear them out? Or have I just been fiddling around with the
view settings too much and need to....just stop doing it, and leave things as
they are?

(I came up with a similar question about folders not long ago, so sorry to
take advantage of these threads again...)

I can't really get my head around that, but ... doesn't WMP have an option
that will change the icons based on (forgot)? <g>. Sorry, I know that's
not much help, but it seems like WMP can fiddle with icons if you want it
to. Maybe that's what you're seeing as changes you didn't make.

WMP does change icons, but to clarify: I want, if possible, to get rid of
the thumbnails which the folders are being assigned, because they're coming
up with images I did not assign them and which have no relation to the
contents of the folders. This clearly should not be happening, and I haven't
been able to find out why. Thanks for the suggestion.
