Changing the yellow folder icon in thumbnail view

I would like to make a custom icon for use in thumbnail view to look like a
cd case. I use the thumbnail view to display a picture of the folder contents
however I would like to change the yellow folder which appears behind my
thumbnail picture. Q1 Is there a way to do this? Q2 Where is the folder icon
stored? Q3 Can these be changed with a graphics program such as photoshop?

Yes, however you have to create a Windows XP/Vista compatible icon (*.ico)
file, but I don't believe PhotoShop can do this for you.

You can try apps such as Avialis IconWorkshop, but it really depends on how
you want the icon to look.

The current folder icon used is an icon overlay ... it uses the standard
Windows XP folder icon and overlays small thumbnails of at least four
pictures of contents in the folder. This is all generated on the fly.

Q1: Yes

Q2: shell32.dll

Q3: The actual editing of the icon could be done in Photoshop, but you also need a resource hacker
to extract the icon & recompile the altered dll.

You would not be able to select which folders the icon was used for, though. It would be
system-wide for all thumbnail views.
