Those thumbnails are generated by Windows. If thumbs are not shown as they're
are for PDF or other files, then it isn't possible.

Anyway, have you check for options in DJVU menu, in case I'm wrong here.:)

Hi,

Indeed I want to learn a way to modify my windows exploerer or the shell,
whatsoever, so that it will be able to extract the first page information
from a djvu file format, just as if it is doing it from a PDF or JPEG file
format.

I am sure that I have to present a definition of DJVU file format to the
windows system. In the form of a .DLL ? or a registry entry pointing to DVJU
viewer ? Or whatsoever I dont know of course

There must be some way to tell the windows system to interact with that djvu
file type and its associated viewer.

So isnt there anybody who knows how to present a new file format to windows
systems and make windows shell to extract its first page information and
display it in the thumbnails view ?

help needed ...
thanks a lot
best regards

Hello...

the only reason you are seeing a PDF thumbnail is because you have installed
adobe acrobat reader that adds a dll for the extraction and display of that
thumbnail in explorer. In XP its located here: C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\PDFShell.dll

the free djvu viewer does not add a dll to work with windows explorer and
that is why you cannot see it.

In vista people are now developing what is called "PREVIEW HANDLERS" for
various file types...

see some here http://www.codeproject.com/vista/PhotoshopPreviewHandler.asp
http://blog.tatham.oddie.com.au/2006/12/20/vista-and-office-2007-preview-handler-pack-released/
http://ryangregg.com/PermaLink,guid,a29ee2d7-6863-4b70-9fcb-b7db392f9a74.aspx

Now there IS a file-thumnail viewer that can view djvu files if you install
quicktime as well...

its called XNVIEW free viewe www.xnview.com take a look at the format file
types list here and the ledgend
http://perso.orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enformats.html#legend

From what I have seen from other programs (like the old photoshop and
paintshop pro) what they do is usually add a dll and load it onto
explorer.exe as an extension thus providing the generation of thumbnails.

IF you find or develop a way to show djvu files in window explorer please
tell me because I am interested too..

as well as viewing other file formats as thumbnails

Hii,

and yes that is exactly the way I think we should proceed,
and may be it is a good idea to ask for free djvu viewer developers (
sourceforge my case) to develop a handler or a .dll that will patch the winXP
explorer so that it is possible for windows to extract those pages.

it is clarifying, so the ones who develop djvuviewer can also develop their
file handlers I guess, at least it is worth checking...

So now , I will ask for the developers of free djvu viewer...

thanks,
and if I get an answer, I may post it here as well.
