Yes - Event Viewer. Start > Run > type: eventvwr.msc > OK.

A "noobe" shouldn't attempt a clean install without a lot of advance
preparation...and I mean a LOT.

Within the past month,

I've had a fresh install of XP done but I must have buggered somethin
up in getting things back to where I like them and now I can't eve
complete a virus scan without a reboot happening and a warning that th
system has recovered from a serious error. Many times all by itsel
with no one near it. Is there a way to record the events and post the
so someone might have a look-see? Thanks from a noobe!

Can you please post the full text of the error report?

I suggest you Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should
help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Enable automatic restart on system failure after you have captured /
copied and pasted the message in a further post here.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Right you are Ted - until I get a heckuva lot more practice I wouldn't
try a Win install on my own <grn>. I had it done at the local shop.

I did what you suggested and get three sub-folders: Apps, security and
system. On opening system, there are many, MANY entries - I wouldn't
want to plug up the list by pasting all these, would it help that most
seem tro be event 7035 and 7036? I can't seem to cut & paste say 10
lines. Thanks Ted!

Please look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer
for Warning and Error Reports over the last 2 days use and
post copies here.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using
copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no
further information.

Hi Ted - just wanted to bring you up to speed with my rebooting
problems - turns out my C drive was on its last legs. It died and I
had a new one installed along with a fresh XP. Thanks for the help!
