Random Freeze up (XP os)

L

Lorenzo G.

My computer has begun to freeze randomly since I installed
DSL, but I have been told that the problem is either
hardware or software related, and not the DSL connection,
when my computer freezes there is no respose from mouse or
keyboard once freeze occurs, Ctrl+Alt+Del will not bring
up dialog box, I have to turn off power and restart
computer. HELP! I'm going nuts!

Lorenzo;
You are not alone. I have same problem. I updated from
Window 98 and thought that was the problem. Recently I
had to replace the hard drive and did a full, clean
installation of Windows XP, but the problem is still
there. If I find the solution, I will let you know.

Hey, join the club! I've been trying for ages to sort
this problem and up to now have not had any success. I
have a PIII 800 with 128Mb ram. My problem started when I
added another 128Mb DIMM to upgrade to 256Mb. Suddenly
while working my computer would just switch off and then
start rebooting again. Being a work computer I logged a
call with helpdesk and they eventually replace my
motherboard. Thereafter I still had the problem, but
instead of switching off it would just freeze. If I
remove the extra 128Mb dimm, I do not have any problems
even though everything is a bit slower. I've tried
swopping the ram chips, I tried a pair that worked
together in another computer, I've tried ram from another
computer like mine - no luck. It only works reliably with
one 128Mb DIMM - anything more and it freezes! I've even
installed Service Pack 1 in hope that it will resolve the
problem, but not. Please let me know if you guys get an
answer to this.
