my computer is a pentium II with 128 mb ram and 5 gb. I wont to upgrade not
buy a whole new computer. Does anyone suggest any good and cheap upgrades for
my computer?

Sorry, David. Your hardware is ill-equipped to run Windows XP, even after
upgrades. Others may tell you differently, but let me put it to you
straight. Your machine will work best with Windows 98 SE. Unless you can get
the upgrade parts for FREE and you don't mind doing all of this as a test,
don't do it.

Don't waste your time or money on that dynosaur. You need a barebone
bundle PC to get you started to upgrade your system. Something like
this:

In USA you might find it much cheaper than this.

You might be able to put a max of 512MB RAM. You can add more Harddrives
three at most with a CDROM or DVD. And their size should probably be no
more than 60GB each because of your BIOS. But if you have Windows XP then
you can basically go as large as is available. In essence you have a fine
system nothing wrong with it. Nothing right either but that's beside the
point. What is your CPU speed? That is measured in MHz. RAM is measured
in MB usually and Harddrive space is measured in GB usually. RAM size and
Harddrive size are two completely different measurements. One is a measure
of available memory and the other is a measure of avaiable space. The two
are not the same.

No Windows 2000 will work just fine. I have Windows 2000 Professional
running in a PI with 64 MB RAM. And it is just fine.

Your computer, which is quite an antique by modern standards, cannot be
upgraded economically.
Memory for a computer as old as yours would be very expensive, provided it
can be found.
It cannot use any of the modern large capacity hard drives. It probably
won't even support USB (either 1.1 or 2.0) without adding a card.

You are much better off saving your money and buying a new computer. For
less than what it would cost to upgrade your computer, you can get a Sempron
or Celeron based computer that will vastly outperform the old computer you
now have.

Computers are so cheap now that you would be better off getting a low end
(cheap) but yet much better spec than your current which would probably work
out cheaper than swapping out parts for your current. Dell do quite good web
deals and have good after sales support, but there is plenty to choose from.

Yeah, but the cheap [low end] ones may only come with 256 ram and a
5,400 RPM hard drive. Perhaps a [middle end] may be a better choice.

I'd suggest, if you are planning on putting XP on, to get at least 256
ram [preferrably 512], and a new 7,200 RPM hard drive.
