RAM Upgrade - runs slow

Steve Marshall

Hi,

Just upgraded from 512 to 1GB of Crucial DDR-400 (PC3200) RAM - machine
runs fine, but in games, everything has slowed down. No crashes, errors,
etc.

Do I need to put a setting in the Registry or in Sys.ini like in W98?

Running XP Pro SP1 on Gigabyte GA-8S648 MoBo with 3.06 GHz cpu, Leadtek
GF 5950 Ultra, Antec 400 watt psu, Audigy Gamer 1, etc.

Hi Steve

Did you make sure that the new RAM modules were the same make & speed as the
existing one(s)?

Hi Will,

Took out the PC 2700 512 stick and replaced it with PC 3200 1 GB stick.
Only stick in there is the new Crucial one.

Did you ensure your motherboard supported the PC3200 speed? If it doesn't
and only supports the PC2700 speed, it may be running the new RAM at just
PC2100.

If you are sure it does support the faster speed RAM, ensure your BIOS
settings are correct for the new RAM.

Cari,

Crucial made the recommendation for PC 3200 when I purchased the RAM.

What settings in BIOS should I look for?
