Ram problem please help

I have 3 256meg Ram chips , they all work, and I have 3 slots, which all
work, tested them all.
I had 512Meg and got another chip at 256Meg, I added it ...
BUT my computer only sees 512m of Ram , reguardless of what order I put
the Ram chips in..
Why can't my computer see the extra 256m of ram??
I am using windows XP home
Please help
thank you

If I were you I would read the manufacturer's motherboard
manual (it's probably on their web-site) regarding RAM on
your particular motherboard. There can be conditions on
the use of the third slot. It may only work with certain
size-combinations or sub-types of the RAM you have.

It's also possible that the motherboard is maxed out at
512Mb - it's not all that unusual, especially for an older
board.

Good Luck !

"The reason computer chips are so small is computers don't eat much."
