RAM problem in XP Pro.

My system has 4GB of DDR RAM installed, but XP Professional only reports
'seeing' 3GB of that. Analysys programs such as SANDRA all report the
correct amount of RAM.

XP not 'seeing' all of my RAM is causing problems for my audio/video editing
and other RAM-intensive applications.

I was told by one source that I needed to add a ' /3GB' switch to my
boot.ini file - but that did not work and in fact created an even worse
problem.

Does anyone out there know the right way to get XP Pro to recognize all 4GB
of RAM?

Thanks for the info - but I am sceptical. The article you referred me to
says it only applies to Windows Server 2003. When I tracked down the
knowledge base article about the /3GB switch it said that it only applied to
Windows NT4. I also found an atricle shich stated that the /3GB switch could
cause a computer not to boot which is exactly what it did to my system.

Has anyone applied these switches to Windows XP Pro and met with
success? The last time I tried the switch I ended up having to dump my
entire system and reinstall everything from scratch - frankly I can not
afford to have to do that again, and I really do need the RAM to be
recognized.
