R200 Epson 2 red lights flashing

i have an r200 epson, the ink and paper red lights are flashing quickly at
the same time. i push the print button, the printer makes all the noises as
if it is ready to print then the paper is drawn into the printer and stops
about a quarter the way down and the 2 red lights start to flash and a paper
jam error comes up on my monitor. i pull the paper out or push the eject
button and set it all up again and it does the same thing. i have had this
printer for a while and it has done a great job of photos etc, and i can't
understand why the red lights are now flashing.

There are several different light patterns that mean different things. If the
ready light is off and the other two are blinking in unison at about 5 blinks
per second continuously with no pauses then your printer is posting a fatal
error...but what is confusing is the paper jam message. Can you describe
exactly what the sequence of lights is and how fast they are blinking and
whether there are any pauses. If the error is a fatal error either the paper
feed mechanism cannot continue or the print head carriage is jamming, either
can be caused by an obstruction such as a scrap of paper which can be difficult
to see.

hi Tony,
thanks for the reply.
after i push the print button on my computer, the printer goes through all
the movements and noises as if to print, it draws the paper down and then
stops with the 2 red flashing lights. i push the paper feed button and the
paper is spat out and the printer starts to draw another sheet through, this
happens about 3 times then stops and i have to go to the print button on my
computer to start the process again.

i hope i have explained it ok,
look forward to your reply,
grant.

Also you may want to check to see that the ink cartridges are pushed
in until they "click". Try removing each and reinserting them. This
will also cause two red lights to flash.

I know this as I am a product rep for Epson in retail stores.

See the other reply about the cartridges, well worth checking.
The fact that the paper feeds through the printer probably means that there is
nothing wrong with the paper feed mechanism and clearly there is no obstruction
in the paper path.
The question is whether the carriage is freely moving on the carriage bar? Try
this, turn the printer on and as soon as the carriage starts to move away from
the docking station pull the mains lead from the printer. See if the carriage
can be moved freely all the way from one end to the other, you can do this by
hand, but don't pull on the cables.
Afterwards push the carriage back to the home position and reconnect the power.

hi derF and Tony,

I tried reseating the carts and I made sure they clicked in and the paper
goes through the printer without any obstruction.
I rang the firm that supplied me with the printer and they are sending one
of their ex demo printers to me and they will then send the printer to
epson. Whilst I couldn't fix my 2 red light problem I am very pleased with
the service from the supplier and the advice I have recieved on this news
group.

thanks,
grant.
