Qx800CCC92

Recently changed to a new computer which has Outlook 2003 on it, versus the
Outlook Express previously used. Entered all of the POP3 information and
other settings correctly along with the user name/password. However, whenever
I try to access the email acct I get the error message

- Receiving' reported error (Qx800CCC92): ' Your e-mail server rejected your
login.....

I have contacted the ISP and verified the login and password information as
well as the POP3 & SMTP information. I have tried to make alternate email
accounts, removed the old ones, tried different data files as suggested in
some of the other posts, but none of it seems to to work.

If anyone can provide some guidance that is clear and easy to understand it
would be appreciated.

Could you post the whole error message please?

Hal,

This is the entire message:

Task 'Suscom - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server
rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account
properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR
authorization failed'

Despite what the tech said, clearly the server (which is the true authority)
disagrees. Whatever username and password the POP server is receiving do
not match the credentials the POP server expects somehow.

Hi

I get the same error message but it is due to Outlook trying to send/receive
from an account that should only receive mail. I can't find a way of
disabling the auto send/receive process from trying to send to the account.

I get 6 'splash' boxes asking me to enter my network password. This process
happens every minute. The only way to bypass it is to close each window using
'X' button.

George

For Outlook 2002/2003, click Tools>Send/Receive?Send/Receive Settings>Define
Send/Receive Groups (or press ALT-CTRL-S while viewing a mail folder).
Select the Send/Receive group (usually All Accounts) and click Edit. Select
the account you don't want to send and uncheck "Send mail items". Click OK,
then Close. Alternatively, I think you can also remove it from the
Send/Receive group altogether (i.e., uncheck "Include the selected account
in this group) and make sure "Send immediately when connected" is checked on
Tools>Options>Mail Setup.

The MS Knowldegebase has articles on this matter, the references to which
have been posted numerous times in this group.

I've tried deselecting the faulty account from 'All accounts' and setting up
a seperate group but it didn't work. I've now tried, following your response,
keeping the faulty account in 'All accounts' and unchecking the 'Send mail
items' it allows the receiving of mail without reporting an error. So thats
an improvement. However, I still get the 6 splash windows asking for the
correct username/password. I enter both correctly and press OK. Only to get
the same splash windows.

I've cancelled 48 splash windows in writing this message. ah...

I've now got a further problem...

I have just tried to send a new email message using a different, previously
working, account and get the same error message via the splash window.
Entering the correct details is no use as another window pops up.

Again, the MS Knowledgebase has articles on this subject.

Brian,

I've spent several hours trying to identify a solution within the Knowledge
Base without success. I've tried a couple of near matches but they don't
provide an answer.

Is the splash window problem a seperate issue from the send/receive one?
Your earlier suggestion seems to have cured the 'send' problem. I still get
the splash window, asking for the password of the problem account, after all
the other accounts have successfully completed the send/receive process AND
the problem account has received any waiting mail.

TIA
George

I have no idea what you mean by a "splash window". The usual use of that
term is the small announcement window that many applications display when
they start. That usually stays on screen only for a short while until the
application starts.

Describe what you see in detail, giving the title in the title bar, the
fields that appear, and the buttons that are included and where.

Hi Brian,

The 'splash' box. We can call them windows if you prefer.

Title bar = Enter Network Password
Messsage = Please type your user name and password.
Server = mail.btinternet.com
User Name = (e-mail address removed)
Passwords = " " (blank)
Tick box = Save this password in your password list
Buttons = OK and Cancel

Thats what I get. When I enter the correct password, and click on the 'Save
password' tick box, I simply go into an endless loop displaying the same box.
The password '****...' is displayed but I'm still receive the message
requesting the correct password. This just continues until I either press the
'cancel' button or the 'X' to close the box/window.

If I press the cancel button or 'X' the box usually pops up 6 times before I
get the 'Outloook Send/receive progress' box. There is a gap of of about a
minute between each group of 6 boxes.

One important point I have forgot to mention is that this started after I
installed SP3. I had the problem of Outlook not retaining the password before
this install.

'Outloook Send/receive progress' box/window error message =
Task 'XXXX - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server
rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account
properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'

Since you've already looked at the MS Knowledgebase articles on that, about
the opnly other suggestion I can make is to start with a clean mail profile.

Hi Brian,

I deleted the account, reset my PC and then set it up again. This seems to
have cured the repeated requests for passwords. But I still need to cure the
problem of Outlook not retaining passwords for my accounts. I've seen
articles on this in the Knowledgebase so I'll see if I can resolve that
problem myself.

So thanks very much for your patience. Your help saved me a lot of time.

Regards
George
