Don't worry. I suspect he'll be back in a different incarnation.

Don't quit lurking. Just be careful with your answers. We all learn
from our mistakes. I've been in the business 30 years and I still
learn new stuff every day. I still make mistakes too. We all do. It
pays to lurk in these and other newsgroups. You will learn a lot.
I've only been monitoring the microsoft groups for a couple of months
(didn't have time before) but I have learned more here than if I
would have spent the time in a classroom. The combined experience of
everyone here is an unbelievable resource. You'd be crazy not to use
it and learn from it. If you answer a question and someone questions
your answer use the experience to learn. Do some research and find
out if you were right or the other person was right. If you were
wrong admit it and thank them. If after researching it you still
believe you are right call them on it and defend yourself with facts
but always be prepared to be proved wrong.
Kerry

If he starts up again with moronic answers, it's on YOUR head!

I've seen a few over eager inexperienced techs that with a bit of guidence
became very good. I've also seen some that were better suited for a
different career path. I'm an optimist. I always assume they are in the
first category. It has cost me a few times :-)

Glad you took it in the humor it was meant. To tell you the truth, I
had a shiver go up my spine the very first post I read of his, and over
the years I've learn to heed that feeling. The kid is bad news,
IMHShiver! :)

No. Trust and respect are things that need to be earned by one's
actions, and the words of a simple "I'm sorry" is not nearly enough.

What frightens me is that Quintin has apologized, yet still doesn't
acknowlege that reusing the same two answers for nearly every problem is a
doomed strategy. Further, it is scary that he expresses more self-confidence
in his replies than any MVP does. I wonder if he actually understands what
we are talking about here. I'd have sent him an email long ago, had he given
an address.
If he goes astray again, I suppose the only alternative will be to re-harass
him.

And the little turd is a lying scumbag on top of everything else! I
hope all those advising him to lurk instead of leave release that this
guy is a total sh*thead.

Okay... i'll go... but all someone had to do if they thought it was wrong was
give me an email... it aint hard...

Painful it may be, but keeping it public is the way to go. The point
about public posting is that it can be peer-reviewed, and that applies
to "don't listen to this, it's bad advice" corrections as much as any
other posts. Some of the things I needed to learn the most, I learned
by having what I thought was correct advice, publicly corrected.

Then again, sometimes I'll have "corrections" that I disagree with,
and then I stick to my guns and show my workings. Folks watching the
details can then draw their own conclusions.

The thing is to play the ball, not the player, and try and keep it
impersonal (when flamage is necessary). I do that my totally ignoring
the identity of the person I'm correcting (or robustly debating with).

Also, I try not to sound authoritative when I'm unsure about what I'm
posting about. I'll "AFAIK" or "AFAIRC" (as far as I know / can
recall) to highlight where I'm fuzzy, hoping to attract corroboration
or correction. Finally, there's the maxim from a harder platform:

"First, do no harm"
