Hello:
is there any utility that can convert a quicktime mov file (generated by my
digital camera) to mp4 format?
Thanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicktime
"The QuickTime (.mov) file format functions as a
multimedia container file that contains one or more
tracks, each of which stores a particular type of
data: audio, video, effects, or text (e.g. for subtitles).
Each track either contains a digitally-encoded media stream
(using a specific codec) or a data reference to the media
stream located in another file."
And what that means in practice is, a device that creates a Quicktime .mov
can create an obscure file, that many utilities will not handle.
QuickTime is a container format, so many things can be stuffed
inside it.
There are two approaches you can take. Look through the software
and documentation for the camera, to see if a "conversion" or
"capture" software is included. If you're lucky, this may be
able to convert the file into something which is easier to deal
with.
The other option, is to find a tool which can examine the file,
and determine what CODECs were used to produce it. Once you
know the CODEC, you can Google on that name, to help you find
conversion utilities that can deal with it. I would have
expected a utility on the Mac side for this as well, as
Mac users likely run into problems. Just because a person
buys QuickTime Pro, doesn't mean all their problems are
solved.
