I have quicktime alternative on my machine.. Windows media player doesn't
recognize when it searches for viseo file.. How ever my winavi converter
detects it and converts it to avi or dvd which my player does seem to
recognize and play well.. Why doesn't Windows Media player see ti and just
play the mp4 and mov on its own????

No idea, sorry. This is a newsgroup for Windows XP issues - not Windows
Media player or third party apps. You might try looking for forums for
Quicktime Alternative or try posting in a group for Windows Media Player.

.mov and .mp4 files saved through quicktime use a codex (program code)
written by Apple, Inc. Microsoft does not support the quicktime codex,
probably for legal reasons. I recommend downloading quicktime or
sticking with your quicktime alternative. Alternately you can find a
different means of converting the files so they come out as .wmp
