quick launch

Number of programs which run in the background dont' show up in the quick
launch bar (systray) even though their option is set to start at windows
startup and the taskbar properties is set to show always. Sometimes the
programs will show in the systray and other times they simply wouldn't. How
can I control the behavior of thouse programs in terms of displaying their
icons in the systray (they are running in the background -just not showing).
Thanks

No, you're mixing up two completelt different things. The Quick Launch Bar
is a place used to hold icons to start frequently-used programs. By default
it's on the left side of the task bar (when it's on the bottom), next to the
Start button.

The systray or system tray (better is its offical name, "System Notification
Area") is the area next to the clock which holds icons for running programs,
usually programs running in the background.

even though their option is set to start
at windows startup and the taskbar properties is set to show always.

Not all programs running in the background manifest themselves as icons in
the Notification Area. Which programs are you concerened with?

Its the system tray, thanks for the clarification. The program in particular
is webroot spy sweeper and memory Fasdefrag (which I can access only through
the sysstem tray icon, when its actually running in the background). In any
case I would like to have a control over this feature. Now those programs
sometimes shows up in the tray, sometimes they don't. (Quick media player
also belongs in this category of random show ups). Thanks
P.S Usually after reboot the programs are absent. After log of and log on
they appear.

Sorry, I don't know anything about either of these. Perhaps someone else
does,

I have this same problem. Its definitely not an issue with how you hav
selected options or use of the programs or notification area.

I first noticed this problem shortly after installing ZoneAlar
Security Suite. Now that I'm seeing the behavior, it reminds me that
had this problem once before. I think at that time I was using a
earlier version of ZoneLabs firewall and ended up removing it.
hadn't used their products for a couple of years until just las
week.

I'm not 100% sure its the fault of ZoneAlarm, as I also installed
couple of other programs at the same time.

The original posters description of the problem is accurate. On a
inital power-up and WinXP load, some of the icons that normally show u
don't appear (in my case they include things like the Apache Monitor
MusicMatch Jukebox quickstart icon, TurboBackup Scheduler, and a fe
others). The programs have definitely loaded, just no icon. If yo
log off of windows and log back in (not a complete restart), then th
icons show up.

Anyone else seen this and/or solved the problem? I won't have time t
dig into the problem for a week or so till I finish the project I'
currently on..
