Quick Launch does not show after each start.

Recently my XP home PC has stopped (possibly after some "Registry Clean
up"?) to display the Quick Launch part of the Taskbar. I have made sure that
the QL item is ticked and even tried the 'Lock the Taskbar' option but after
each restart the QL shortcuts are not showing. All that needs to be done is
to right click on the taskbar>select Toolbars and click on the QL and it
stays for the duration of the session. However next restart it is not in
place again. :-(

TIA for any assistance. LPS.

See if this helps:

Open the Registry Editor (Start > Run... > regedit) and in the left-hand pane,
navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In the right-hand pane, scroll down and find the REG_SZ value named "Userinit"

The value may contain this data:

%system32%\wsaupdater.exe,

where %system32% represents the path to the System32 folder, such as
C:\Windows\System32

Instead of wsaupdater.exe, the data should contain userinit.exe,

Change it to the path of the System32 folder and to userinit.exe,

C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

Do not forget to add the comma at the end!

Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.

Hello "glee" Thank you for your assistance and information.

I have tried this suggestion (and found my XP does have 'Userinit') and
checked out all the other suggestions listed at the referred site. My PC
either had the suggested 'fix' or if not I tried it. Unfortunately the
problem still continues.
The Quick Launch items are listed but just don't show up after the PC is
restarted, presumably because the 'tic' check mark is not being 'locked in'?
I have even restarted the PC after just ticking the QL item without doing
anything else on the PC but all to no avail. :-(

Cheers, LPS.
