Just installed XP SP2, and ever since then my quick lauch
disappears every time i reboot - whether i locked the
taskbar or not - then when i show the Quick Launch again -
none of the items are in the order that i had them in
origionally.

Any help would be appreciated.

Might not be an SP2 issue. But, usually caused by the malware BlazeFind.

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"

Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes. Also, change the path to userinit.exe approriately, if Windows is installed in a different drive.

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows. The Quick Launch settings should be retained now.

This did not fix the problem - in addition the registry
key did not need to be changed as it was the same as you
suggested.
