Several of my company's customers have been having issues with the Outlook
2003 Cache mode. We're hoping to resolve the issue as much as we can on our
end, while simultaneously working with a Microsoft rep to narrow down the
issue on their end. It would help us greatly to have answers to the
following things:

1) Under exactly what circumstances does Outlook 2003 consider a cached form
to be 'stale', thus seeking a fresh copy from the Exchange server?

2) What circumstances can cause a cached form to become corrupted?

Thanks in advance.

1) It should update it when the version is older than on the server or when
it has been wiped from the cache when you reached the maximum amount of KBs
you configured it could use for the form cache

2) The Form Cache has had a complete makeover in Outlook 2003. A lot of
issues have been resolved in Service Pack 1. Still you can come accross some
issues but not all are design related. You can clear the forms cache and see
if it works then. If this is sporadic you can instruct your users to easily
clear the cache by using this script;

If it happens way too often you can force Outlook to always reload the form
before reading it from the cache. To do this you must add/modify the
following registry key;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook
Value name: "ForceFormReload" (without quotes but case sensitive!)
Value: 1
