Hi, all.
I have multiple drives and partitions in my machine (SP2).
I have a 300 GB drive which is split into 2 partitions - E200GB) and
G100).
As of last week sometime, the icon in Explorer for the E: Partition has
changed from the normal 'hard drive' icon to a more 'generic' icon.
I believe that this happened soon after I put an older NTFS drive onto
my machine via an external USB chassis - it was a friend's disk, and he
needed help recovering something off it because he only had a laptop at
the time and needed some files from it.
I had to go through unusual machinations to access that disk - I had to
convert it from a Dynamic to a Simple disk in Disk Management, for
example.
As well, when we were finished our work with the disk, I just yanked
the USB cable out of the machine (my normal process, hasn't caused any
problems in the past). I got some "Delayed Write Failed" messages
against that disk as a result, but I wasn't really concerned.
I had to reboot to clear the drive letter as well, which was unusual.
Since then, I believe, the Disk icon on this drive in my machine is
different.
I've run a quick Scandisk on it, checked the Event viewer for hardware
errors...
Not sure what else I can do at this point, aside from cleaning the disk
off and reformatting. But I'd like to understand what could cause this
first. Anyone have an idea?
Thanks!!
BD.
