I currently have Windows ME and will be replacing that with XP Pro.
Will my emails & address book files work OK after transferring them?

You should keep your settings if you're doing an upgrade but it's always
recommended to do a clean install of a new OS. This means losing everything
and starting over unfortunately. Do some reading on how to do backups of
(I'm assuming) Outlook Express. You can do a Google search for "backup
Outlook Express" or read this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670/EN-US/ . Then do a clean install
and import your backups back in.

Hi Sogs,

Thanks for posting here! Also thanks for all replies!

From your post, my understanding of this issue is: How to transfer emails
and address book files safely during the migration from Windows Millennium
Edition to Windows XP. If this is not correct, please feel free to let me
know.

Before you start to upgrade Windows Millennium Edition to Windows XP
instead of a new installation, please visit the following Microsoft Web
site to ensure the successful migration:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316639

If you finished upgrading with no problem, there will be no effect on the
mail and address book files usually. But for more assurance, you'd better
back up these files before migration.

To back up Mail client files, please refer to the following Microsoft Web
site depended on what kind of Mail program you used:

Outlook Express:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670/

Microsoft Outlook 97: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/168644/

Microsoft Outlook 98 (CW): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181014/

Microsoft Outlook 2000 (CW): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/195719/

Microsoft Outlook 2002: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070/
(Also applies to Outlook 2003)

Or you can use a small tool to back up:

contact us. It is always our pleasure to be of assistance.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,
