Question About Windows Registry?

I have a question regarding Window's Registry. Ok, my question is does every
different CD add info to the registry? I'm asking this since I can't
reinstall a Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion, and was wondering if getting a new disc
would sove the problem. Any help is appreciated.

You mean "Installed Application", not CD.
And the answer would be indeterminate.
It depends on the how a given application chooses to install.
Every program is written differently.

Most programs do write to the registry when installed. Unless the disc is
scratched or unreadable, however, a new CD won't get the program installed.

What error or problem do you encounter when you try to install the program?
That'd be most helpful and we'll troubleshoot from there.

Hi Nicole,

Have you tried cleaning the CD Disk of Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion? There are
CD Disk Cleaners at the stores like at Office Depot for example that sells
them. The CD Disk may simply needing cleaning.

Technology > Computer Accessories > Security, Tools & Cleaning > Computer
Cleaning Supplies

Kensington® Drive GuardianT CD Lens Drive Cleaner @
http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=986604&No=20&Nr=200000&N=200490&An=browse

or Kensington® Media GuardianT CD Disc Cleaner @
http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do...&Nr=200000&N=200490 4294966092&Ne=5&An=browse

And as far as the Windows Registry goes, if a different version of the
game, like Version 3, then the answer is Yes. If the same version, it only
overwrites and corrects any bad Entries.

When I click the install link, the uninstall screen comes-up. I'm not the
only one who's had this problem, most people reccomend a very drastic
solution.

When I went on Tech Support they said it was a corrupt CD, and are sending
me a new one. It really odd, since I've reinstalled it before.

The installation program (or most installation programs) detect if the
program is already installed. If it is, it shows options to remove it.

I would either try following through (remove the application, then install
it again),
and if that doesn't work, I would try a Windows Install Cleanup. To do
that, download and install this program from Microsoft:
-----
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
-----
Run that program, find the Zoo Tycoon Expansion program listed, highlight it
and choose remove.

NOTE: TRY TO UNINSTALL USING THE NORMAL WAY FIRST, WITH THE INSTALLATION
PROGRAM THAT PROMPTS YOU TO UN-INSTALL. BECAUSE --> this Uninstall Cleanup
Utlity does NOT uninstall programs, it just removes the record that they were
ever installed in the first place, allowing you to reinstall it normally.

DO NOT USE THIS UNINSTALL CLEANUP UTILITY TO UNINSTALL NORMAL APPLICAIONS.
ALWAYS TRY TO USE THE CONTROL PANEL'S ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS APPLET.

(I don't normally scream (use all caps) but this is really important, that
uninstall utility can do damage if you use it for programs that are working
okay).

I've tried uninstalling it the normal way several times. So I installed the
windows Install Clean-Up, African Adventure wasn't listed, so I unistalled
ZT2DD again and then chose that on the list and removed it, since ZT2 doesn't
install each expansion as a seperate program just ads to the original.

I also washed my CD, since I don't have a CD cleaner, so I'm waiting for
that to dry.

Here's an update. I did what I said below, and tried reinstalling them all,
and African Adventure still won't install. And now it's not even on the list
for the Windows Install Clean-Up.

What type of error does it give you now when you try to install it? Does it
still act like it's already installed?

Yes, it gives me the same error. It completely baffels me. It was fine
before and the others are fine.

I'm thinking it could also be the fingure prints on it, since they didn't
come off when i washed it. I tried to copy the disc, to see if it was the
stuff on the disc that wasn't keeping it from installing, and to try to use
the burned copy, and the burining program I have couldn't read the disc. So
maybe a new disc is just what I need, and I won't take that one of of the
sleve it comes in, except for installation of course. Either that or the disc
is just bad, since all other disc work in the drive fine.

Hi Nicole,

That Cleaning product, I posted removes fingerprints from the CD
surface. Read the intructions before use, thou. You want the side the CD
Drive reads facing up during cleaning. Of course, you can keep spending
money on a new program disk, each time you run into problems, but the money
adds up that you need to keep spending to replace CD Disks.

I speak thru experience with one of Microsoft's Streets and Trips CD.

Did you get the same error as me? I need to invest in that cleaning tool, i
could really use it.

Hi Nicole,

I don't make up answers or experiences. If you try my idea and it
doesn't work, then you post, his ideas don't work. But you won't know for
sure unless you try them.

If Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion worked before, it should work again. If the CD
Drive, can't read the file off the CD, try cleaning the CD using a CD
Cleaner. A CD Cleaner is cheaper than paying postage, repeatly in P&H for a
replacement.
