Question about screen resolution

I have no idea where this message should be posted, so I'm going to try it
here. Let me know if I should go somewhere else with this. I have an old
Gateway 2000 Destination 31" Monitor that I very much enjoy using with my
computer. However, this monitor only displays a maximum resolution of
800x600. Generally this is not a problem, but unfortunately, more and more
software is designed for higher resolutions. I think back to I think it may
have been Windows 95 where you could pick a resolution and also a screen area
slider. Is there something similar available for Windows XP? Or is there some
other software cheat or hardware device that will allow me to use this
otherwise perfectly good monitor?

If the monitor resolution max is 800x600 then you won't be able to use it at
a higher rate period. Check the manual for the resolution and frequency
possibilities.

I realize that I cannot go above 800x600. As far as I'm concerned, 800x600 is
enough for everything I do. I'm wondering if there is a way to "scale" my
applications down to 800x600 or something like that. I know it might ugly,
but really, how pretty does Easy Media Creator 7 need to look for just
burning CDs?

The application would have to support 800x600 or you would need some
"virtual desktop" utility that would "slide" the "screen" around to look
at whatever was outside the 800x600 "monitor window" Some video driver
software comes with a utility like that also you may find shareware on
the internet to do this. www.google.com + virtual desktop
