I'm wondering if it's possible to get a keyboard that has some kind of
mouse courser control built in and use it in conjuntion to the mouse,
sort of a redundancy, or if those kinds of keyboards would take over
the mouse input/control. I'd like to be able to use both at once.

There are keyboards with trackballs built in. Here's an example:

My question is could they both be used at the same time, or does that
kind of keyboard have 2 cables, one of the keyboard input and one for
the mouse input so I could not also have a mouse separate from that?

I guess you would have to look at the keyboard picture at the link
and/or contact PCKeyboards to ask that question. AFAIK, you wouldn't be
plugging a mouse into that keyboard but would just have your regular
mouse attached directly to either the ps/2 or one of the USB ports on
the computer.

Ask somewhere else. This has nothing to do with WinXP.
