Question about Hibernation in Windows XP Home Edition

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post it as I was unable to find
any other section related to my question. I just recently (no more than a
month ago) got an HP laptop and when I use to shutdown the lap top I've
always had a choice to either shutdown, restart, standby/hibernate. Now for
some unknown reason standby/hibernate are not available anymore. I'm aware
that the PC has to be ACPI-compatible, and mine is, in order for hibernation
to work. I've went to Start > Control Panel > Power Options and there is no
hibernation tab, it use to be there, not anymore. What happened to it? Can it
be re-enabled via Windows Registry Edit? I like putting my laptop into
hibernation that way I can resume where I left off from what ever it was I
was doing. Any knowledgeable replies will be greatly appreciated.

Any difference if you're running on battery vs AC power?

Start > Turn off computer > depress SHIFT key: Is Hibernate available now?

Does the machine have a HP-installed alternate Power Options utility (look
in Power Options > Power Schemes dropdown menu)?

Restore Power Schemes/Configurations (Linbe 204, Right)

Thanks Robear Dyer. Though it didn't really solve my problem. I looked over
other posts regarding hibernation issues. I remembered that my
hibernation/stand by disappeared after I installed my Motorola Servicing
software. So I uninstalled it and that solved my hibernation issue. Thanks
anyway, much appreciated.
