Question about file associations

I have removed all associations from Media Player for the file type
..WAV because I have my own player that just plays the file quickly.

My question is as follows:

Firstly, why is it that in Tools-Folder Options-File Types, I used to
(in older version of windows) be able to not only change file
associations, but put in lots of possible actions on a file. Now, I
can only simply associate the file with a program and that's it.

Is there something missing?

Also, why is it that when I remove association in Media Player
options, it still leaves all those right-click actions in the context
menu for that file type? Is it simply, as I suspect, because Microsoft
refuses to let people manage their own files the way they want to,
instead choosing to force certain associations down our throats?

TIA

From XP HELP:
[To modify an existing file type
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options
..
On the File Types tab, click the file type you want to change, and then click Advanced.
If necessary, modify the file type description, and click Change Icon to change the file type icon.
Under Actions, click the command you want to modify, and then click Edit, Remove, or Set Default.
Click New to add a new command to the Actions list.
Notes
After you specify a new action, the corresponding command appears on the menu when you right-click a
file with the associated extension.
In the New Action dialog box, you can click Browse to find the program you want to specify for the
action.
All files that have the file name extension will use the icon and commands you specify.]

Hi,

Make the changes in: Start/Run/Regedit - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Remove the context menu listings there as well.
