I just purchased a gateway laptop with windows vista, i was trying to burn a
cd but the downloaded burner wasn't working and a burner drive couldn't be
found. So i went to windows help and support and under the information from
microsoft I went to Update Your Drivers. I clicked on repair or update a
driver and it did the procedure. And when it was done it restarted and then
it asked me for a new user id and password and when i got onto the desktop
all I had was the recyle bin. So I tried microsoft live chat and e-mail but
it couldn't find my PID number. So what I'm asking if anybody knows what
happened and how I can fix this problem and maybe recover some of the
programs and items I had originally. Thankyou for any help

You should contact Gateway Support or web site and find their procedure for
Restoring to Original Configuration. All the manufacturers have a procedure
to return to as shipped condition.

Did you accidentally open up and save the drivers under a new user acount?
How many user accounts are on your computer now?
