Question about Device Manager Display problem.

Hello.

I just upgraded from Vista Basic to Premium. After I was finished
upgrading, I was downloading and installing some Microsoft Updates after
going onto the Internet. The MS auto-search found them.

When the updates from MS download and were installing, I had the Device
Manager window.

Image 01 shows the very plain tree view that I see now when I open the
Device Manager window.

The Device Manager window screen shot shown in image 01 should look similar
to the Vista display style in image 02 below - which is a screen shot of a
different window.

The Device Manager window shown in image 01 is not the Vista Classic view
display style as shown in image 03 below - which is a screen shot of a
different window.

The window displayed correctly before I ran the installation of the updates,
because I was using it before I ran the update installation. The window
functions correctly.

I sure would like to know how to fix this.

Hi K--

You're simply confusing two things. Device Manager has a choice of Views
when you open it in Vista by clicking Views. I often use Show Hidden
Deivces.

The views you desire aren't views of Device Manager, they're classic views
of the control panel. Control Panel is not Device Manager although you can
reach it from there.

Simply set Control Panel for a Classic View:

Rt. click Start button>Properties>Start Menu Tab>Customize>Control
Panel>Display as a Link>Apply>OK.

I sure would like to know how to fix this.

That's a confusing post. If what you are trying to do is change the look of
the Control Panel, you can choose either the grouped view shown in Pic.02,
or the Classic View in Pic.3. I do not understand why you have included a
picture of Device Manager.

If you want to change the icon size of Classic View, you can type ATL to
give you the usual explorer menu. You might be able to right click within
the window as well, to get a context menu.

When SS is confused the same way I was confused, I feel confused in good
company.

It took me a couple reads to realize he is simply trying to change the CP to
a classic view (I showed him how) and he has lol thrown device manager into
the mix. That's a sure way to make it confusing lol.

Heh. I saw your reply, but as the third picture seems to be Classic View
anyway (but in Details view), I thought he might want to change the size of
the icons. Well, I hope he's got some sort of useful answer.
