Question about Automatic Updates service.

Is it possible to set the local user account that's signed in and give it
permissions to install Windows Updates? I know that you can pick certain
accounts but will the yellow exclamation point appear under the user account
if you set it in the AU service.

I just want to cut down on logging into the workstations as administrator
and installing.

Sad A few hours ago, Microsoft XP self-destructed itself by disabling
all the security update websites, especially McAfee, Windows Update, Avast!,
and AVG Technologies! Every time I click on any security website on its link,
nothing shows up, and it always fails to connect! It seems my computer itself
is self-destructing! Even the link to Microsoft Customer Support won't work
anymore because it's permanently disabled. Is there a phone number for
Microsoft Customer Support? :(

Why do you have 3 antivirus programs? Avast, Mcafee, AVG get rid of two of
them. You really only need one.

It's not just that "you really only need one." Running multiple
anti-virus programs is dangerous, because they can easily conflict
with each other.

No, I can't go, because the website is permanently disabled. :(

You need to get out of this other person's thread. His thread has nothing to
do with your issue and you're interfering with him getting help. Your
computer is apparently extremely infected. You have three choices:

1. Attempt to clean it up yourself. You will need to get all tools/updates,
instructions, etc. from a different, known-clean computer.

2. Or back up your data and do a clean install of Windows.

you will need on-hand

3. Or if you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer
repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).
Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware
and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will
need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up
before you take the machine into a shop.

Debbie can have this thread. I can create a new one.

Debbie - You may just want to back up your data as suggested reinstall
Windows again if you have the Windows disk and start over.

She also might be saying she can't create a new post so she jumped onto mine.
If you're getting a ton of pop up ads you're best off backing up your data
reinstalling Windows XP SP3 and reinstalling you're antivirus software and
start over from scratch.
