Does Windows Defender check for automatic updates under user permissions or
do you have to log in as an administrator account to get updates?

Its part of the normal XP windows Update utility. If you have that
turned on to update XP then defender gets updated too.

Assuming (1) Defender is installed such that it runs in all User Accounts
and that (2) Automatic Updates is enabled & functioning properly, Defender
will typically auto-update itself (for all users) twice a week.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. This is not one of them.

See
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/newsgroups/default.mspx

TIP: Access these newsgroups using your default newsreader, not your
browser. See instructions on above page.

Yes, it will run but...
and that (2) Automatic Updates is enabled & functioning properly, Defender
will typically auto-update itself (for all users) twice a week.

....it won't update while in LUA.

What's your dog in this fight?

I'm relaxed, non-agressive and never fight (I leave that to the foot
soldiers) and haven't got a dog, not even a goldfish or canary.
So, what's your beef?

Your hijack of this thread and dragging us off-topic.

See, I figured you didn't have a mind.

Are you talking about intellectual matters...?

"I would NOT connect a Notebook PC to the internet anywhere in PRC or just
about anywhere in SE Asia..."

Now that's even more comical.
