QOS/RSVP service causing problems

Since upgrading the file sharing program Grokster to V.1.7 (previous v1.6) I have had a megga problem. After the install I restarted my machine, it took forever to get the desktop up and the computer was acting sick

Using windows msconfig I have tracked the problem down to the Windows os/rsvp service, if I disable this service the machine boots OK in normal time, however I an unable to interact with an internet connection of any kind, even though one is present

I have removed Grokster using the normal procedures plus the Grokster regclean program
I have reinstalled os/rsvp but this has not cured the problem either

If I check the msconfig services when starting up I find that RPC hangs in the Start Pending stage, it remains in this state until the desktop finally loads, some 10 minutes after system start

I have asked the program developers to comment on if Grokster interacts/uses the os/rsvp service in any way

In the mean time is there any software that I can use to determine why the os/rsvp service is dragging down the system load time and what is making the computer act rather sick in its final start stage.

You said "Grokster" and that pretty much explains your problem.
Likely got infected by lots of spyware (almost guaranteed) and likely have a
trojan/virus or two.

Get rid of the spy/ad/mal-ware first..

Spybot Search and Destroy

Lavasoft AdAware

The Cleaner

Hijack This!

And Assortment of Others:

(Yes - I am suggesting HIGHLY you run at least the first three.. ALL of
them. In my experience each one can find and kill something the last one
missed. It MAY NOT in your case, but it sounds like you might need the
extra "just in case.")

After you cleanup your PC somewhat of spy/ad/mal-ware, verify your antivirus
software is updated and run a full scan of your computer. If you have no
antivirus software - get one NOW!

Now - turn on that firewall...

See if that helps.

Thanks Shenan, I will try your suggestion now, although I did have Norton Firewall and systemworks running att. of the update and it is a current version

OK, So I tried some of Shenan's recommendations and all were good, especially Spybot which really picked up a lot of rubbish, I already had Ad-aware which is a good program, cleaner is also V good and did pick a few things up

So now I still have the same problem but a cleaner XP hopefully

One curious thing I noticed is that there are no networks displayed in the Network Connections folder, yet there is a wireless connection running perfectly between this and the problem machine

I tried to create a new connection and went thru the process OK, only when I finished no connection was displayed

I have now run the Network Diagnostics scan from the Help and Support Centre and I get failure messages in both Computer information and modems and network adapters for ALL services, saying that "Unable to connect to WMI service '\root\cim2'

What do you think is going on here

Tried running the WMI Script "Listing WMI cimV2 Classes" from microsofts Technet centre

It works OK on this machine but when I try it on the problem machine it gives the error "permission denied 'getobject', code 800A0046"
