Q: OS Dials Internet Connection when booting

C

Creature

I need help with this, I just don't know what to try anymore.

I run Windows XP SP1, McAfee AV and little esle in terms of start-up
software. My computer automatically dials my internet connection when
I boot, and periodically re-tries when I cancel.

IE is not configured to automatically dial-in. My default internet
connection is not configured to automatically dial-in. There is
nothing in my Startup menu.

What else can it be?

My guess would be some malware, virus, or porn dialer. I'd suggest getting
some free software to check out your system, AVG anti-virus if you don't
already have an AV program, along with Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D to scan for
other malware.

try these:

www.grisoft.com
www.lavasoftusa.com
www.safer-networking.org

also you might want to goto Start > Run and type " msconfig " without the
quotes and see what all is loading in your startup group, and uncheck the
bad stuff. There is a great list of startup applications and explinations
for them if you don't know what you are looking at, the list can be found
here:

www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.php

cheers
