Getting automatic Dial-Up without IE or OE

Hi,

I am using Win XP Pro SP2 and use a dial-up account to connect to the
Internet.

Dial-up automatically kicks in if I start Internet Explorer or call up
a URL and no connection is already present. However I use Real Player
and a couple of other applications that need an Internet connection to
listen to radio programs and I would like Real Player to trigger
Dial-up when required.

Under Win95/Win98 this was faultless but now it appears that Dial-Up
responds automatically to Internet Explorer/Outlook Express but not to
other applications.

Does anyone have any bright ideas ?

Many Thanks.

Dave.

Hi Sky,
Open your IE properties, to that Right Click your IE Icon on your desktop
and select Properties from the drop down menu.
On the IE properties Click on the Connections Tab and Select the Radio Button:
(o) Always Dail My Default Connection
If you have an Internet Firewall be sure to allow Real Player Full access to
the internet.
Hope this helps

Hi Nass,

I'm still stuck on this. I verified that the Connections setting and
Firewall setting were as you suggested, but still my applications will
not trigger a Dial-Up. The only ways I can do that are:

1) Start IE and request a page (I have my default page as blank)
2) Tell Outlook Express to pick up mail
3) Manually run the Dial-Up icon from my desktop.

I suspect that between Win98SE and WinXP something radical has occurred
with the way Dial-Up is handled and it is only accessible via IE and
OE.

Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Sky,
Open the OE Offline and Click on File on the Menu and be sure that
workoffline is not checked, and on the Tools click Account and select your
account and click Properties, on the Server Tab select your Connection or ISP
provider as your default for OE to access the internet.
