vista to xp - no dial up connection

does anyone have an answer to this - i removed Vista and installed XP in a
new HP Pavilion 1700. Think i have all the right drivers - seems to work fine
Except it won't dial-up. Have another computer so i know it's not my service.
The modem dials but i always get the message 'you've been disconnected'. i
installed a new modem with the same results. it will connect to internet on
a cable connection- just not dial up.

please can someone help

FYI You may well have violated both your HP support & warranty by installing
a different o/s to the one it was supplied with.

You visited HP site to install winxp specific chipset & other drivers
specific to your model?
