PW CD and bittorrent

I am completely new to Bittorrent. I set it up, and set the thing
going. It seems to be doing something. I am 20 mins into the download,
and the estimated time to completion of the PW ISO image is 142 hours.
Ouch.

I am downloading from my office - which is behind a corporate
firewall. I assume this means that people will not be able to upload
the file that I store on my disk.

Hi,
ASSUMING: Office - Corporate firewall - DSL connection
"Something" seems to interfere for sure.
Should expect 20 +/- Kbs/S at least if NOT many "seeders" active AND less
than an (office) day's work to complete.
OUTGOING DATA: Your firewall setting are yours to adjust. Mine's allow.

I was getting similar results until I did some reading on Bittorrent and
found that you have about a 7x better chance of connecting to other
bittorrent users if you're not behind a firewall. My throughput was ranging
between 5 and 15 KBps until I put the computer on the other side of the
firewall, after which my throughput went up to around 120-150KBps.

Actually I believe if you forward the correct ports on your firewall you
will get the same performance. I have a firewall and I have forwarded
the correct ports for Bittorrent and it works fine.

Brief notes:
On Linksys firewalls the default IP is probably 192.168.1.1 and the
default username and password should be admin and admin. The default
ports to forward for Bittorrent are 6881-6999. To find out your IP on
the network use the "ipconfig" command.
