I recently installed Windows XP on my home computer and
wanted to also install the XP on my dayghter's computer.
I beleive for a small chardge an extra access code can be
puchase from Microsoft to install on the other computer

Is this true?

I checked with Microsoft and it's no small charge. It's full retail value.
It was cheaper to shop around for a retail version that was on sale.

Sort of true, but unfortunately it's not a small charge (see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/addlic.asp). The
problem is that Microsoft sells additional licenses at only a
small savings over the list price. You're almost certainly better
off just buying a complete second copy from a discount source.

Like an OEM version (non-transferable) for around $100.

A Home Upgrade will likely be appropriate - the machine will have an
existing windows on it, and about the same price at a discount store
