Publishing/ saving problems

D

Denise G.

I just purchased space on a host's server and am unable to
publish my site. I can ftp no problem but I can't publish
using http without getting an error message that halts the
whole process. I also can 'open' the remote website in
Frontpage and make changes BUT I can not 'save' any
changes I make because of this same error message:

"!Server error: The folder "/" is marked executable. You
are not allowed to put files into an executable folder on
this server. "

I keep writing the Administrator and he tells me I am
doing something wrong. I have 3 other sites I maintain in
Frontpage and have never had any problem publishing them.I
would appreciate any advice/help. My professor and I feel
it is a permission issue that needs to be addressed at the
host's end.

The Frontpage extensions are installed and this is the
code in the _vti_inf.html page on the host_server.

<!-- FrontPage Configuration Information
FPVersion="5.0.2.2623"
FPShtmlScriptUrl="_vti_bin/shtml.dll/_vti_rpc"
FPAuthorScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll"
FPAdminScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_adm/admin.dll"
TPScriptUrl="_vti_bin/owssvr.dll"
-->

Thanks, Denise G.

If you published using ftp you have broken the extensions.
Have the admin reinstall / repair them.

I did have the admin repair them. It did not work. I sent
him my site zipped and he was able to publish them. Since
then I have only tried to update by opening the site in
Frontpage (to no avail it won't permit me to save changes)
or publishing them in Frontpage (http) and I still get the
exact same message and I get shutdown.

How are you opening your site?
File Open Web/Site and entering the URL as
http://www.yourdomainname.com/

I tried that and got the message:

"Could not find a webserver at 'www.mydomainname.com' on
port 80. Please check to make sure that the webserver name
is valid and your proxy setting are set correctly. If you
are sure that everything is correct, the webserver may be
temporarily out of service."

Yes I used the full URL but the error message truncated
it.

I also should clarify that the only difference between
this site and the other 3-sites I manage (all at this same
host) is that I requested this site to be set up to use
scripts(Php & Asp) while the other sites are strictly
Frontpage sites. I love Frontpage have never had a problem
(4 years) publishing any of my other FP sites.
