publishing problem, can't connect to front page web space

Hi, I've been tring, unsuccessfuly to upload my website to my FP webspace. As
this is the first time i have used FP it's very frustrating to know where to
start troubleshooting.
first off, i should say that my FP webspace has been enabled for some time
and that i have tried to upload with firewall / AV disabled. I should also
say that I can upload with frontpage but only to my FTP space.

Its possible that I have some settings wrong, so if someone could confirm if
this is right;
after creating my site locally I selected VIEW / REMOTE WEBSITE. clicked on
"view remote website properties" a pop up box appears, I select "frontpage or
sharepoint" and enter the details "http://fp.force10.plus.com" press ok (SSL
is not required by my ISP ) and I get the following error

"unable to open http://fp.force10.plus.com
server error: the server at http://fp.force10.plus.com does not appear to
have sharepoint services installed.

possible causes:
1.the web server may not have frontpage extensions installed
2.the web server may be out of service
3.you are connect through a proxy and the settings are wrong
4.an error may have occurred in the web server.

I have also tried FILE / OPEN SITE type in http://fp.force10.plus.com, and
got the the following error message;

"the folder http://fp.force10.plus.com isn't accessable. The folder may be
located in an unavailable location, protected with a password or the file
name contains a \ or / "

I'm not sure if this is a red herring, but, if you open
http://fp.force10.plus.com in a browser the page displayed is INDEX OF / (
this is the default page provided by my ISP as i have never been able to
connect to my frontpage webspace )

I also noticed that when viewing the page from my PC, "index of /" only
contains one link to "parent directory". When viewed from someone else's
computer the following folders are viewable and accessable: "Images" ,
"_private" & "postinfo.html"

I'm confused and slightly worried that other people can access the files and
that i cannot even see them

I have also tried to reverse manage my by opening the page in IE then
FILE/EDIT With FP, but the option to publish site is greyed out

any help with this is much appreciated.

That is a subdomain. You can't publish to or open a subdomain. The web
site must be set up with as a subweb, and host headers used to point to the
subdomain, which must have special dns entries.

Hi Tom,
thanks for the prompt responce. The frontpage webspace is
provided by my ISP, they have a seperate sever for frontpage hence the "fp."
in the URL, "force10"is my username and "plus.com" my ISP. I have used the
settings they provied.
I'm not sure how to set up the site as a subweb or host headers or the DNS
bit.
is this something I have to do in frontpage or something my ISP has to do to
the webspace?

you can see my ISP's frontpage instructions at

http://www.plus.net/support/webspace/frontpage_guide.shtml

thanks

steve.

Contact your host for the correct URL to use w/ their shared implementation of FP SE
According to
http://www.force10.plus.com/_vti_inf.html
and
http://fp.force10.plus.com/_vti_inf.html
The site does not have the FP SE

Thanks Stefan, I think with this information, the error can firmly be placed
with my host. I have had them reset my frontpage webspace but this has had no
affect. I appreciate your help, Thank

Steve.
